Policies & Ethics

The standards that govern publication, research integrity and platform use across every IoI Press title.

Publication Ethics

IoI Press is committed to the highest standards of publication ethics, informed by international norms such as those of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Editors, reviewers and authors share responsibility for maintaining integrity throughout the publication process — from submission to post-publication corrections.

Research Integrity

IoI Press treats research integrity as foundational to trustworthy scholarship. Our policies address, among other concerns:

  • Plagiarism and text recycling
  • Duplicate or redundant publication
  • Image manipulation and figure integrity
  • Citation manipulation and coercive citation
  • Fabricated or falsified data
  • Paper mills and authorship-for-sale schemes
  • Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI-generated content

Similarity/plagiarism-detection reports are one input among several; editors interpret them based on the nature and significance of any overlap rather than relying solely on a fixed percentage threshold. Suspected misconduct is investigated following a documented process, which may involve the corresponding author, institution, and — where warranted — correction or retraction of the published record.

Peer Review Policy

IoI Press journals use a double-blind peer review process by default: author and reviewer identities are withheld from each other throughout review. Editors select reviewers with relevant subject expertise and free of disqualifying conflicts of interest. Reviewer identity, comments and manuscript content are treated as confidential.

AI Policy

Generative AI tools may not be listed as an author, as they cannot take responsibility for a work's integrity. Authors who use AI tools in preparing a manuscript (e.g., for language editing or drafting assistance) must disclose this use in the manuscript's acknowledgements or methods section. Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscript content to public AI tools in a manner that breaches confidentiality. Submitted text and figures are expected to be substantively the authors' own work.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers and editors must disclose any financial, professional or personal relationships that could be perceived to influence the objectivity of a submission, review or editorial decision. Editors recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where a conflict exists.

Corrections Policy

Where errors are identified in a published article that do not undermine its overall validity, IoI Press will issue a formal correction (erratum/corrigendum) linked to the original publication, clearly describing the change.

Retraction Policy

Articles may be retracted where there is clear evidence of unreliable findings due to misconduct or honest error, redundant publication, plagiarism, or unethical research. Retracted articles remain accessible online, clearly marked as retracted, in line with standard scholarly practice for preserving the published record.

Appeals & Complaints

Authors may appeal an editorial decision by writing to the editorial office with a clear rationale. Complaints regarding editorial conduct, peer review, or ethical concerns are handled by the editorial office and, where necessary, escalated to the publisher's governance for independent review.

Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to make underlying research data available, whether via a public repository, supplementary files, or a clear statement of access conditions and restrictions, disclosed at submission.

Open Access

All IoI Press journal articles are published open access: freely available to read, download, and cite without subscription or paywall, immediately upon publication.

Authors retain copyright in their published work. IoI Press publishes under a license (typically Creative Commons, specified per journal) that permits reuse with appropriate attribution while preserving the author's ownership of the work.

Privacy Policy

IoI Press collects personal information (such as names, affiliations and email addresses) only as needed to manage submissions, peer review and publication. Information is not sold to third parties and is used solely to operate the publishing process and communicate with authors, reviewers and editors.

Cookie Policy

The IoI Press website may use essential cookies to support basic site functionality. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies are used at this time.

Terms of Use

By using the IoI Press website, users agree to access content for lawful, scholarly and personal use, and to respect the copyright and licensing terms attached to each published work.

Digital Preservation

IoI Press is committed to the long-term digital preservation of published content, so that the scholarly record remains accessible even in the event of future platform changes.

DOI Policy

Published articles, book chapters and conference papers are assigned a persistent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) via Crossref, ensuring stable, citable links to the published version of record.

Crossmark Policy Future

IoI Press intends to implement Crossref's Crossmark service as its publication volume grows, allowing readers to verify the current status of a document (including any corrections or retractions) directly from the published PDF.
